Community Cup - Winners!

We are the CHAMPIONS - Take Two.

Following in the footsteps of Year 6 and their fabulous achievement at the 'We are the Champions' competiton, Murch Junior School are continuing on with that winning habitit by being victorious in the regional Community Cup.

The Community Cup is a football competition run in conjunction with Cardiff City and the FA.

We played on Friday 29th January 2009. The competition was held on the astroturf at Sophia Gardens. 32 different schools from all over South Wales took part making it an important competition.

After qualifying top of the group we went into the 4th round to play the other group winners. Success followed success with our team maintaining their unbeaten record all the way to the final. The final was a very close affair with another Vale school, St Josephs. At full time the score remained goalless, so a period of extra time was played, but still there was deadlock. What did this mean? Penalties!!! We needed four players who were confident and had lots of bottle which is exactly what we got. Especially when it came down to sudden death and we scored and our excellent keeper , Jess, saved the day!

We were victorious and now we move on to the Wales and South West finals to be held in Bristol. The winners prize is a trip to play at Wembley.
